CommunityBuild community from the inside out: kids, adults, parents and grandparents together on Sunday afternoons
Sharing art and music with our neighbors: SingPositive is a regular performer at JP's Wake Up the Earth festival in May and the Lantern Parade in October. We hold free performances at venues like the Mount Pleasant Home, and also perform at local social justice events. It's like this:
"SingPositive includes kids, adults, parents and grandparents. It's nice to interact with people of different age groups in a fun setting. It's community-based - kids meet other kids in their community, adults meet other adults. There are social events outside of rehearsal. The choir in JP has become *very* close." "There are some songs for just the kids, some for just adults, and some that the kids and adults sing together. One of the conductors will take the kids and teach them their part while the adults work on something else. They're really great with kids." "It's truly something parents and kids can do together (equally) and bond over." "There are special classes for the kids at each rehearsal so that you don't have to be watching your child the whole time. It's pretty informal - parents having to occasionally attend to their kids during rehearsal is expected." "The songs are very fun, and not too hard to learn. You don't have to be able to read music. Recordings of each voice part are made available online." |
